Create a Traditional Canoe Paddle

Join craftsman Jay Seely for this two day course in carving a traditional canoe paddle.  Over a period of two days you will create your own paddle, customized to your body and ready to be tested in the water.

Work will be done with hand tools including knife, shavehorse, spokeshaves and hand planes.  While designing and creating your personal paddle, you will also learn about these timeless tools, their history, care and finetuning.

This course is conducted in an accessible location so anyone can participate.  Course numbers will not exceed 4 students/instructor to ensure the best possible experience for the participants.  The course requires 2 full days for participants to complete their paddles.

• Softwood blank included in course tuition

• Hardwood blanks can be requested for an additional fee ($40-$80)

• Depending on course venue, tent/hammock space may be available

• Lunch/snacks will be available during course
